Understanding Elevators and Slips in Drilling Operations
Elevators and slips are crucial tools in the drilling industry, designed to securely hold and manipulate drill pipes during operations. Elevators are used to lift and lower the drill string, while slips provide a safe hold on the pipe when it's stationary. Together, they enhance safety and efficiency, making them indispensable for any drilling rig.
What to Check on Used Elevators and Slips
When you shortlist elevators and slips, compare each listing's ratings against the industry standards your operation follows. Look closely at wear on the dies, latches, and inserts, since these decide whether a unit is ready for demanding drilling environments. A careful check up front means you can focus on your operations with confidence.
