Workover and well-servicing rigs for pulling, swabbing, and completion work — smaller, faster to mobilise than a full drilling rig, and priced accordingly. Oil Rigs Now’s workover inventory (13 units) includes rigs from Service King, Cardwell and other established manufacturers, sized for routine well maintenance through heavier workover programmes. If you need a rig on location fast rather than a multi-week drilling programme, this is the category.

Listings marked “Listed by [Company]” are offered directly by that company or owner. Oil Rigs Now doesn’t carry its own inventory — every listing is placed under a fee arrangement (flat listing fee or sale commission) agreed with the seller. Questions? Call 832-912-5843.

Buyer Guidance

Workover rig vs drilling rig — what’s the actual difference

A workover rig is built for well intervention, not for drilling a new hole from surface: pulling and running tubing and rods, swabbing, light completions, and well maintenance. They’re smaller, mobilise faster, and cost less to run per day than a drilling rig, but they’re not a substitute for one on a new-well programme. If your job is re-completing, servicing or working over an existing well, a workover rig is very likely the right tool and a full drilling rig is over-specified and over-priced for the work.

Sizing a workover rig to your well depth and pulling load

Workover rigs are typically rated by pulling capacity (the load the mast and drawworks can lift) rather than by drilling horsepower, though HP still matters for rotary work if the rig will do any drilling-out or milling. Match rated pulling capacity to your deepest anticipated string weight with margin, not to your average job — the rig that’s adequate for routine tubing pulls can be badly undersized the one time you need to work a stuck string.

Manufacturers and what they’re known for

Service King and Cardwell units make up a meaningful share of the active US workover fleet and are well understood by crews and service companies — parts availability and familiarity are real practical advantages over less common builds. If a specific manufacturer matters to your crew’s experience or your maintenance contracts, say so up front; Oil Rigs Now can filter for it.
